Plagiarism Screening

Gerasi in Language Studies (GILS) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism and similarity screening using Turnitin as part of the initial editorial screening process. The screening is conducted to identify substantial textual similarities with previously published works, online sources, academic publications, and other available documents.

Similarity Threshold

The maximum acceptable similarity index for manuscripts submitted to Gerasi in Language Studies is:

Similarity Index: ≤ 20%

A manuscript with a similarity index of 20% or below may proceed to the next stage of the editorial and peer review process, subject to the editorial team's assessment.

A manuscript with a similarity index above 20% may be returned to the author for revision and resubmission. Authors may be required to revise the manuscript, particularly in sections showing substantial or inappropriate textual similarity.

Editorial Assessment

The similarity percentage reported by Turnitin is not the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team will examine the similarity report to distinguish legitimate similarities from potential plagiarism.

Similarities resulting from the following may be considered acceptable where properly cited and used appropriately:

  • References and bibliographic information.
  • Standard academic terminology.
  • Commonly used methodological expressions.
  • Properly cited direct quotations.
  • Names of institutions, instruments, theories, or established concepts.
  • Other unavoidable textual similarities.

However, substantial unattributed similarity, inappropriate copying, plagiarism, or other forms of academic misconduct may result in rejection of the manuscript regardless of the overall similarity percentage.

Author Responsibility

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the originality of their manuscripts and for properly acknowledging all sources.

Before submission, authors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscripts for plagiarism and similarity and to revise any sections containing excessive or inappropriate similarity.

The final decision regarding plagiarism and manuscript eligibility rests with the editorial team of Gerasi in Language Studies.

Post-Publication Concerns

If plagiarism or significant academic misconduct is identified after publication, the journal may investigate the matter and take appropriate action, including issuing a correction, editorial notice, or retraction, depending on the severity of the case.
