Bentuk Variasi Redaksional Hadis Tasyabbuh dan Relevansinya Terhadap Identitas Keislaman

Abstract

The phenomenon of tasyabbuh has long attracted attention in hadith studies, yet its meaning is often reduced merely to symbolic and external prohibitions. This article addresses three main questions: a) how the variations of tasyabbuh hadith wording are found in primary hadith collections, b) how classical and contemporary scholars interpret the prohibition in theological, moral, and identity contexts, and c) how its relevance explains the dynamics of Muslim identity formation amid contemporary socio-cultural phenomena. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, through the stages of takhrij, isnad and matn criticism, as well as analysis of hadith commentaries (syarah). The findings indicate that the tasyabbuh hadith does not appear in a single wording, but instead presents a spectrum of variations ranging from man tasyabbaha, which is general in tone, bu‘itstu, which carries theological dimensions, to laysa minna, which implies moral exclusion. Scholarly interpretations reveal diversity: some emphasize the protection of faith (aqidah), others limit it to worship and symbols, while some relate it to ethics and culture. The relevance of this hadith is evident in safeguarding Muslim identity, particularly in facing globalization, popular culture, and digital expressions. The novelty of this research lies in affirming that the textual variations of the tasyabbuh hadith serve as an essential instrument to understand its multidimensional meaning, beyond external prohibitions. This study concludes that the tasyabbuh hadith functions as a normative mechanism in Islam to construct identity boundaries. The limitation of this research is its reliance on textual sources, thus future studies should incorporate community-based reception to provide a more empirical picture.
