Love has long occupied a central place in both Islamic and Western intellectual traditions. Muslim philosophers typically understand love as a metaphysical and spiritual reality oriented toward the Divine, whereas Western philosophers and psychologists—among them Erich Fromm—often approach love as a humanistic, psychological, and socio-ethical phenomenon. As a leading figure in humanistic psychoanalysis, Fromm conceptualizes love as an active capacity that enables individuals to overcome alienation, actualize their humanity, and cultivate meaningful relatedness, as articulated in The Art of Loving. Employing a philosophical and analytical method, this research explores the epistemic foundations, assumptions, and implications of Fromm’s thought in order to assess its coherence and relevance within wider spiritual and ethical frameworks. The findings reveal that Fromm’s philosophy of love is grounded in humanistic psychoanalysis, emphasizing autonomy, social responsibility, and the productive orientation of the self. This stands in contrast to Islamic philosophical and mystical understandings of love, which center on spiritual purification, metaphysical purpose, and the quest for closeness to Allah Swt. The study concludes that while Fromm’s theory offers valuable insights into the psychological dimensions of love and personality, it remains limited when evaluated through the lens of Islamic spirituality. Consequently, a more comprehensive articulation of love—especially for Muslim readers—may be achieved by integrating Fromm’s humanistic insights with the spiritual and metaphysical perspectives of classical Muslim philosophers, thereby moving toward a richer form of spiritual humanism.
Achmad Reza Hutama Al Faruqi, Ika Aisatur Ropiah Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Spirituality and Counseling https://jurnal.gerakanedukasi.com/index.php/jsc/article/view/209 Wed, 28 Jan 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Deradikalisasi Melalui Program Pelatihan Kader Dakwah (Pkd) Oleh Pengurus Cabang Lembaga Dakwah Nahdlatul Ulama (Ldnu) Di Tulungagung https://jurnal.gerakanedukasi.com/index.php/jsc/article/view/212
The focus of this research is to initiate a cadre formation program by the Nahdlatul Ulama da'wah institution which aims to combat radicalism. Radical ideology is a threat to unity and unity because it has the potential to cause divisions with subjective claims that consider their group's religious model to be correct, while other groups are wrong. These beliefs are no longer an issue, but a real threat that has spread widely in society, especially in the Tulungagung area, East Java. Because of this fact, the fight against radical ideology is no longer the main solution, but there must be active and continued efforts so that this ideology can be suppressed in society. One effort that values research as a relevant effort is through Nahdlatu Ulama Da'wah Cadre Training (PKDNU) which is carried out in stages. This research is qualitative research with a type of passive field research. Researchers are directly involved in the training process to obtain credible data through observation, documentation studies and interviews.
Muhammad Khadziqun Nuha Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Spirituality and Counseling https://jurnal.gerakanedukasi.com/index.php/jsc/article/view/212 Wed, 28 Jan 2026 00:00:00 +0000 PENGARUH EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT DAN SELF EFFICACY TERHADAP SENSE OF DARK HUMOR PADA MAHASISWA FAKULTAS PSIKOLOGI UNIVERSITAS ISLAM NEGERI MAULANA MALIK IBRAHIM MALANG https://jurnal.gerakanedukasi.com/index.php/jsc/article/view/216
: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh emotional quotient dan self efficacy terhadap sense of dark humor pada mahasiswa Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The study employs a historical method with a qualitative approach based on library research. The findings indicate that a number of early-generation Sufis were recognized as active, credible ḥadīth transmitters who possessed scholarly authority within the ḥadīth tradition. Early Sufis applied an ‘irfānī (gnostic) perspective—alongside an exoteric approach—in understanding the Prophet’s traditions, positioning the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the primary model for spiritual and moral practice. Historically, the term taṣawwuf began to be used in the late second century Hijri and is etymologically associated with ṣūf (coarse wool), symbolizing simplicity and asceticism. The core teachings of taṣawwuf are oriented toward achieving spiritual happiness and inner tranquility through the harmonization of body and soul, while simultaneously serving as a mechanism for self-control against materialistic impulses and destructive external influences. In the context of modernization and industrialization, taṣawwuf functions as an ethical response to the moral degradation of humanity, particularly the domination of material desires (ḥirṣ). Through the practices of riyāḍah (spiritual discipline) and mujāhadah (spiritual struggle), taṣawwuf offers moral transformation grounded in harmonious relationships between the servant and God, fellow human beings, and the social environment. Thus, ethical taṣawwuf in contemporary society fulfills three primary functions: spiritual education, personality formation, and the strengthening of social ethics.

Keywords: Bimbingan keagamaan, Mental, Spiritualitas
Moh Ali Copyright (c) 2026 Journal of Spirituality and Counseling https://jurnal.gerakanedukasi.com/index.php/jsc/article/view/229 Thu, 29 Jan 2026 00:00:00 +0000
